Quietly located we enjoy the best of both worlds being only one mile from the town of Fort William where there is a large choice of eating places. Alternatively, there are hotels within walking distance where you may have a bar meal, a restaurant meal or would be welcome to just enjoy a drink in any of their lounges and soak up the scenery.
Please see our information and activities web site www.magicscotland.com to help you plan your visit to Fort William.

Lochaber is surounded by glens, lochs, rivers, hills and mountains. There are many pleasant walks and rambles in the area to enjoy of varying degrees, from easy relaxing walks to more strenuous outings. Off course you may wish to “go the whole hog” and climb Ben Nevis which is the highest mountain in Britain, a long hard walk even in summer, not to be tackled by the ill prepared. The beautiful valley of upper Glen Nevis known as the “GORGE” has no counterpart in this country and is internationally famous for it’s Himalayan Character which arises from a peculiar combination of crag and woodland and water and is not repeated elsewhere in Great Britain, it is one of the scenic wonders of Scotland.

Fort William which was once a military garrison has a long and exciting history, there are castle ruins still evident at Inverlochy.

There is a very interesting visitor centre at Glencoe with a wealth of information on the “Glencoe Massacre.”

Visiting Glenfinnan is a truly memorable experience where you will find the “Bonnie Prince Charlie Monument” erected on the spot where he is said to have come ashore and raised his standard while fleeing from the Isle of Skye with the English soldiers in pursuit. You can pass through Glenfinnan when you take the Jacobite Steam Train to Mallaig and this must surely be one of the most beautiful and breathtaking trips in which to enjoy “Romantic Lochaber.” There is a visitor centre at Glenfinnan.

The Nevis Range Ski Centre is a mecca for skiers and snowboarders and in summer offers the opportunity to travel by gondola up to the mountain-side licensed restaurant where you may have anything from a light refreshment to a full meal. Once up there you may walk or just simply take in some of the stunning panoramic views of the area.

From this vantage point the Caledonian Canal can be seen which includes the locks of Neptunes Staircase, a fine example of nineteenth century engineering.

10 miles north takes you to Spean Bridge where you will find the Commando Memorial which was erected and dedicated to the memory of the commandos who were trained there at Achnacarry and some of whom never returned home from the 2nd world war.

Do not forget Loch Ness where the MONSTER is watched over by Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness. A superb visitor centre is located at Drumnadrochit with fascinating facts and information about Loch Ness.

We are Situated on the A82 which is the main road going through Fort William.
